SIMA 2013 Championship results

October 11, 2013. Where for so little, you get so much.  For SIMA Raceway that meant the end to a highly competitive and fun filled season in 2013. The company decided to go out with a bang as they concluded the year’s events with not just one, but two days of racing action! Saturday consisted of a normal sprint race day and Sunday consisted of an inaugural endurance race. Saturday started off with the TaG senior class and Lane Zerbin taking the win for the day. Next followed IAME Senior and Italian Motors release of the new direct drive motor, the IAME Nordam. Every pilot in Saturday’s events was behind the wheel of the new Nordam and put on quite a spectacle for viewers. The class started the day with SIMA’s new qualifying format for next year: Super Pole. Remo Ruscitti, David Jurca, and Jaime McAllister were the top three in open qualifying, and each got one lap to showcase their skill and vie for pole. Remo Ruscitti went on to win Pole position and led from flag to flag. Next up was TaG Masters and high blood pressure as this race would determine the year end champion. Championship leader Kurt Fisher got the better of rival Ron Hyde in the Pre-final, but Hyde managed to pull out the win as the checkered flag waved for the final race of the day. Even with the win, Hyde fell short by only 6 points handing over the series championship to Fisher.  Expert Shifter would follow as Remo Ruscitti showcased his talent in his second class of the day and would again take the checkered flag. Ryan Zessler would be the man to beat on the day and victor in the Junior division. The day wrapped up with Lane Zerbin taking another win in 4 cycle to cap off his successful day. The track awarded day end trophies and decided to save the year end trophy presentation for after Sunday’s events. With still two tickets to France on the line, anticipation was high for the following day. While Saturday was sunny and clear, Sunday hit with an overcast morning and plenty of rain. The green flag dropped at exactly 11am for SIMA’s inaugural endurance race with drivers lining their karts on the opposite side of the track, and taking a running start as per LeMans racing form. Most pilots were on rains but a few on slicks made for an interesting start, and saw Remo Ruscitti jump to a commanding lead.  Rain had let up for the first part of the race, but a mere 25 minutes later the skies reopened. All drivers were required to make a mandatory pit stop and that meant refuel for some and tire swap for others. At the end of the wet chaos, as the checkered flag flew at 12pm noon, top four finishers included Remo Ruscitti, Ryan Horses, Ron Hyde, and Jaime McAllister. Ron Hyde snagged the final trip to France in TaG Masters and Jaime McAllister snatched up the final spot in TaG Senior. There was no shortage of action or intense drama on the track, and at years end SIMA Raceway and Claudio Valiante had great success. SIMA provided a free BBQ for all those that braved the weather and presented year end trophies and winners of the trip to France following the race. With such a dramatic end to the season and so many smiling faces, there will be no question that SIMA Raceway will see a successful and more intense season to come in 2014.
